With the majority of the land base in Alabama held by private
landowners, the management of these lands is essential for
enhancing and sustaining bobwhite quail and other natural
resources. To accomplish this goal, a partnership was formed
between the Alabama Forestry Commission, Alabama TREASURE
Forest Association, Alabama Wildlife Federation, The Longleaf
Alliance, and the U.S. Forest Service to provide technical
assistance to private landowners. The partners are committed
to working with landowners to improve quail habitat and
promote wildlife conservation and natural resource stewardship.
Because every tract of land is unique, there is not a fixed
formula for bobwhite habitat management. The landowner assistance
program offers landowners an opportunity to work with professional
wildlife biologists to develop a specific strategy to improve
quail habitat on their property. For landowners interested
in the TREASURE Forest Program biologists work closely with
professional foresters to integrate multiple-use planning
to accomplish landowner goals. To be eligible for assistance,
landowners must own a minimum of 10 acres of forestland.
